Lil' Nightowl

Here is the much requested pattern for the lil' Nightowl toque.

CO 64 sts in DK weight yarn.  I used Sirdar Snuggly DK.
Join in round.  Place stitch marker at beginning of round.
Work 7 rows k2kp2 rib.
Work 3 rounds plain.
The owl cable is an engaging pattern for knitters and so is very popular.  I used the owl cable from Sara Amoroso found here.
Start owl cable.  It is worked over 11 sts.
Round 1: k27, p3, k8, p3, k to end of round
Round 2:  k27, p3, k8, p3, k to end of round
Round 3:  k27, p3, k8, p3, k to end of round
Round 4:  k27, p3, C4B, C4F, p3, knit to end of round 
(C4B = slip next two stitches onto a cable needle and hold it behind work, k2, k2 from cable needle.)
(C4F = slip next two stitches onto a cable needle and hold it in front of work, k2, k2 from cable needle.) 
Rounds 5-11:  repeat round 1
Round 12:  k27, p3, C4B, C4F, p3, knit to end of round (same as round 4)
Round 13:  repeat round 1
Round 14:  k 27, p3, k1, p2, k2, p2, k1, p3, k to end of round.
Round 15:  repeat round 14
Round 16:  repeat round 1
Round 17:  repeat round 1
Round 18:  repeat round 4
Round 19:  repeat round 1

Work 2 rounds plain.

Change to DPN's to start decreases:
k6 k2tog for one round
knit one round plain
k5 k2tog for one round
knit one round plain
k4 k2tog for one round
knit one round plain
knit 3 k2tog for one round
knit one round plain
k2 k2tog for one round
knit one round plain
k1 k2tog for one round
k2tog for one round

Break yarn and draw through remaining 8 sts. Pull tight and weave in on inside.

Using a contrasting colour, outline the owl cable in backstitch.  Sew buttons or beads on for the eyes.  Sit back and gaze on the magic of knitting and your own amazingness until bedtime.
